You might be forgiven for thinking that during these long, very hot summer days, nothing has been happening at the theatre but this is very far from the case. Rehearsals for the next show, Dirty Dusting have resumed, Harmony has continued working on the new programme and Norman McIntosh and other members of the tech team have been very busy doing a huge amount of refurbishment and repair work around the building. In particular, Norman has virtually refitted the gents’ loo in the theatre. This has been a huge amount of work and he has laboured throughout the hottest months of the year in order to complete the project in time for the next production. The membership owes him a huge debt of gratitude for his very hard work.

Annual Dinner at Palia Ilektriki 17 September

Numbers attending are currently 50, which is slightly down on last year. So there are still a few places available but you need to contact Spotlight in the next couple of days to ensure a place. The good news is that we will have entertainment for the evening. The cast of Batman the Musical, who are new Stage One Members, will give us a sample of the songs and dancing from the show, which will be fully performed in the Markedeio Theatre in October.

The list of tables and seating will be issued this week by email. A reminder; 7 for 7:30, when the show will start and we will eat about 8. Cost is 25 euros per head, drinks from the bar are extra. This should be a great Stage One evening, so if you want to come let me know soonest.

December 17 – Christmas Party and Carol singing concert with Harmony.

Tickets are selling fast for Dirty Dusting directed by Doug Craig, which features 3 cleaning ladies who, having been made redundant, find an unexpected and outrageous way of supplementing their redundancy pay. Bawdy and hilarious this is definitely one for grown-ups! Cast is; Jan West, Diane Bailey, Carol Harvey and Thomas Schendel. Don’t miss this hilarious play which has done many national tours in the UK and has entertained thousands there and is now brought to Emba West End by your favourite local English-speaking theatre company. Our Panto this Year is Camelot and the Knights of the Desk written and directed by Sian Williams so you can bank on some very unexpected twists and a lot of music and laughter. The show is now cast and with some very interesting new members Rehearsals begin after Dirty Dusting. Dates are: Sunday 6 Matinee, then Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12. This is a large-cast, spectacular show which will appeal to all ages. Don’t miss it!

'WEST END WEEKEND' will be a collection of songs from musicals presented March 5th, 6th and 7th 2027 at Stage One Theatre in Emba.
Auditions will be held in the theatre from 4.30pm on Sunday 11th October 2026.
Auditionees to sing a musical theatre song of their choice.

Auntie Prue’s Advice Column.

Dear Auntie Prue,

In an effort to survive the current heat I have resorted to wearing nothing around my house and garden, except flip-flops. I consider that this “au natural” lifestyle to be perfectly normal and nothing to be ashamed of – quite the contrary, my partner informs me. However, this idyllic existence is becoming somewhat blighted by what, I suspect, is spying by a neighbour. I have often caught the glint of sunlight reflecting on small glass lenses behind an upstairs bedroom window. Now, my flip-flops have limited impact in protecting my modesty but I have no intention of dressing up in this heat. Do you have any suggestions on how I might stop this outrageous intrusion on my privacy?

I can appreciate your problem, I have often had to contend with admiring glances from a considerable distance, myself. But I can’t help feeling that in your case you are being over cautious and if you could just move that large potted palm tree a couple of feet to the right, I’m sure we would all be a great deal happier.
